Since our founding, Digital Green has actively promoted strategies that build women’s agency and promote the effective partnership of women and men to improve their farms. Over 75% of the farmers we’ve reached are women.

Role Modeling
Our videos promote intra-household equality by profiling both women and men as decision-makers, showing women negotiating with other members of their household and modeling joint decision-making between women and men. Women are progressive farmers leading the adoption of new technologies – and our videos celebrate that.
Gender Responsive Technology
Using both offline video and voice messaging on feature phones, we disseminate information to women farmer groups with limited literacy. Even where women have access to smartphones, we’re working to design simplified app interfaces, voice-based interaction over the app, and video content.
Institutional Transformation
In Ethiopia and India, where the public sector is committed to increasing women’s representation in extension services, we support governments to address institutional barriers to women’s participation, while strengthening women farmer groups and encouraging women to participate in local leadership structures.

INDIVIDUAL

COMMUNITY
We create confidence-building content, give women the space to ask questions and get feedback from experts, and utilize and create technology that meets women where they are – whether it’s short voice or video content, IVR or WhatsApp.
We help nurture healthier intra-household negotiation, promote digital tools that increase household access to economic opportunity and support Farmer Producer Organization leadership to help all farmers succeed together.
We know it takes a village – and we support communities by strengthening the resilience and influence of women farmer groups, championing women to serve in local government and building strategies to recruit more women as extension workers.
